Love Calculator by Zodiac Sign
Which two signs?
Pick both, or enter birth dates instead
Pick two star signs — or enter two birth dates and let the calculator find them — for a zodiac love compatibility score built from aspect distance on the twelve-sign wheel. Every score the tool can produce is published below, along with the best and worst match for all twelve signs.
How zodiac love compatibility is scored
A love calculator by zodiac sign scores the angle between two signs on the twelve-sign wheel, not the signs themselves. That angle is called the aspect, and it is the only thing the score is built from.
The score comes from aspect distance — how far apart two signs sit on the twelve-point wheel. That distance is the published basis of sun-sign compatibility rather than an invention of ours, and it is the same measure a zodiac love compatibility calculator has used since long before any of them were online.
| Distance | Aspect | Base score | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 signs | Trine | 92 | The most harmonious aspect |
| 2 signs | Sextile | 84 | Easy and cooperative |
| 0 signs | Conjunction | 78 | Same sign, same instincts |
| 6 signs | Opposition | 70 | Polarising, and often magnetic |
| 1 sign | Semi-sextile | 45 | Adjacent and awkward |
| 5 signs | Quincunx | 40 | Little common ground |
| 3 signs | Square | 38 | The most friction |
Two adjustments follow. A shared element adds 4 points. A shared modality removes 5, because two cardinal signs both want to lead. The total is then clamped between 20 and 97.
No randomness, no clock, no stored state. The same two signs always return the same percentage, and swapping their order changes nothing.
Why 144 sign pairs produce only 7 scores
Across all 144 combinations of two signs the calculator returns exactly 7 distinct percentages. That is not a shortcut — sun-sign astrology recognises seven aspect relationships and no more, so seven is the honest ceiling.
| Score | Pairs | Share | What produces it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 96% | 24 | 16.7% | Trine within a shared element |
| 84% | 24 | 16.7% | Sextile |
| 82% | 12 | 8.3% | Conjunction — the same sign twice |
| 65% | 12 | 8.3% | Opposition |
| 45% | 24 | 16.7% | Semi-sextile |
| 40% | 24 | 16.7% | Quincunx |
| 33% | 24 | 16.7% | Square |
Leo with Sagittarius and Cancer with Scorpio both score 96%, because both are trines inside a shared element. A love percentage calculator by zodiac sign that shows 144 different-looking numbers is adding noise to hide the same seven answers.
The four elements, and what they do to the score
Element is the single strongest signal in a love calculator with zodiac signs. Every sign belongs to fire, earth, air or water, and the tradition treats fire with air and earth with water as the natural pairings.
| Pairing | Pairs | Average score |
|---|---|---|
| Same element (fire+fire, earth+earth, air+air, water+water) | 36 | 91.3 |
| Fire + Air | 18 | 77.7 |
| Earth + Water | 18 | 77.7 |
| Every other combination | 72 | 39.3 |
The gap is stark: pairings inside an element average 91.3, the two classical friendly pairings average 77.7, and everything else averages 39.3. Half of all sign combinations fall into that last group, which is why so many zodiac readings come back unfavourable.
- Fire — Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Direct, quick to act, quick to move on.
- Earth — Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Practical, patient, slow to commit and slow to leave.
- Air — Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Verbal, social, drawn to ideas over routine.
- Water — Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. Feeling-led, private, long memories.
The three modalities and why they subtract
Modality describes how a sign operates, and two signs sharing one is treated as friction rather than harmony. That is why a shared modality removes 5 points where a shared element adds 4.
| Modality | Signs | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Cardinal | Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn | Starts things and expects to lead |
| Fixed | Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius | Holds a position and resists being moved |
| Mutable | Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces | Adapts, and changes direction easily |
Two cardinal signs both want to decide. Two fixed signs both refuse to move. Two mutable signs change together until nothing is settled. The subtraction is the tradition's own logic, applied consistently.
Same-sign pairs are the exception: the modality penalty does not apply when the distance is zero, which is why a sign with itself averages 82% rather than 77%.
Best and worst match for all twelve signs
Every sign's two highest and two lowest partners, computed rather than asserted. The best pairing for all twelve signs scores 96% and the worst scores 33%, because the same seven aspect values apply to every sign.
| Sign | Element | Modality | Best matches | Worst matches |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Fire | Cardinal | Sagittarius & Leo (96%) | Cancer & Capricorn (33%) |
| Taurus | Earth | Fixed | Virgo & Capricorn (96%) | Aquarius & Leo (33%) |
| Gemini | Air | Mutable | Libra & Aquarius (96%) | Pisces & Virgo (33%) |
| Cancer | Water | Cardinal | Scorpio & Pisces (96%) | Aries & Libra (33%) |
| Leo | Fire | Fixed | Sagittarius & Aries (96%) | Scorpio & Taurus (33%) |
| Virgo | Earth | Mutable | Taurus & Capricorn (96%) | Gemini & Sagittarius (33%) |
| Libra | Air | Cardinal | Gemini & Aquarius (96%) | Cancer & Capricorn (33%) |
| Scorpio | Water | Fixed | Pisces & Cancer (96%) | Aquarius & Leo (33%) |
| Sagittarius | Fire | Mutable | Leo & Aries (96%) | Pisces & Virgo (33%) |
| Capricorn | Earth | Cardinal | Virgo & Taurus (96%) | Aries & Libra (33%) |
| Aquarius | Air | Fixed | Libra & Gemini (96%) | Scorpio & Taurus (33%) |
| Pisces | Water | Mutable | Scorpio & Cancer (96%) | Gemini & Sagittarius (33%) |
Read down the best-match column and the pattern is unmistakable: every top pairing is a trine inside the same element. Read the worst column and every one is a square. A zodiac sign compatibility love calculator that produces a different answer is using a different rule set and should say which. Reading love compatibility according to zodiac sign is, at this level, entirely a question of element and distance.
The seven aspects explained
An aspect is the angular relationship between two points on the wheel, and each of the seven has a name and a reading that predates any calculator.
- Conjunction (0 signs apart) — the same sign. Instant recognition, and blind spots shared rather than covered.
- Semi-sextile (1 sign) — neighbours with almost nothing in common. Traditionally awkward.
- Sextile (2 signs) — compatible elements, easy cooperation, low drama.
- Square (3 signs) — 90 degrees, the classic tension aspect and the lowest score here.
- Trine (4 signs) — 120 degrees inside one element, the most harmonious relationship on the wheel.
- Quincunx (5 signs) — no shared element, no shared modality, nothing structural in common.
- Opposition (6 signs) — directly across the wheel. Polarising, and traditionally magnetic rather than hostile.
Opposition scoring 65% rather than near zero surprises people. The tradition treats opposites as complementary halves of one axis — Aries and Libra, Taurus and Scorpio — which is a different thing from incompatibility.
Can you combine names and zodiac signs?
Not in one score, and not honestly. Searches for a love calculator name and zodiac are asking for two unrelated systems to be added together, and there is no tradition that defines how to weight them.
Combining them would mean choosing a weighting between letters and signs, and no tradition defines one — the number would look convincing and mean nothing. So we keep the readings separate and let you run both: the love calculator by name reads letters, this page reads signs, and comparing the two answers is more informative than averaging them.
If your real question involves birthdays rather than signs, the calculator that works from two birth dates works from two full dates and uses Life Path numbers, birthday numbers and the age gap.
Rashi and the Western star sign are not the same
A rashi is a moon sign in the sidereal zodiac; a Western star sign is a sun sign in the tropical zodiac. Searches for a rashi love calculator are usually looking for the Vedic reading, and it will not match the one on this page.
| Western star sign | Rashi (Vedic) | |
|---|---|---|
| Zodiac used | Tropical — fixed to the equinox | Sidereal — fixed to the stars |
| Planet read | The Sun | The Moon |
| Needed to compute | Date of birth | Date, time and place of birth |
| Typical offset | — | About 24 degrees behind the tropical zodiac |
The two zodiacs have drifted apart by roughly 24 degrees because of precession, which is close to a full sign. The practical result is that most people are one sign earlier in the sidereal system than in the tropical one — a tropical Leo is very often a sidereal Cancer.
A rasi love calculator also reads the Moon rather than the Sun, and the Moon changes sign every two and a half days. Computing it needs a birth time, which this page never asks for. That is the honest reason this calculator does not offer a rashi option: it does not have the input.
So a love calculator based on zodiac signs in the Western sense — which is what this page is — and a Vedic rashi match will disagree, and neither is a mistake. They are measuring different points in different reference frames.
Sun signs are not a birth chart
A sun sign — a star sign, in British usage — is one point in a chart that contains dozens. It says where the Sun sat on the day you were born, and nothing about the Moon, the ascendant, Venus, or any house placement.
An astrologer reading compatibility would look at Venus and Mars for attraction, the Moon for emotional fit, and the ascendants of both people — all of which need a birth time and a birth place. This page has neither, which is why it stops at sun signs and says so.
That limit is also why the tool offers a date field: it converts a birth date into a sun sign and nothing more. Two people born on the same day in different cities share a sun sign and share almost nothing else in a chart.
Sun-sign compatibility is entertainment. It is consistent, its rules are published above, and it cannot see two people.

Frequently asked questions
How is zodiac love compatibility calculated?
By aspect distance on the twelve-sign wheel: trine 92, sextile 84, conjunction 78, opposition 70, semi-sextile 45, quincunx 40, square 38. A shared element adds 4 points and a shared modality removes 5.
Which zodiac signs are most compatible?
Signs four apart in the same element score highest at 96% — Aries with Leo or Sagittarius, Taurus with Virgo or Capricorn, Gemini with Libra or Aquarius, Cancer with Scorpio or Pisces.
Which zodiac signs are least compatible?
Signs three apart score lowest at 33%, the square aspect. Aries with Cancer or Capricorn, Taurus with Leo or Aquarius, Gemini with Virgo or Pisces, and the same pattern around the wheel.
Why do so many sign pairs get the same score?
Because sun-sign astrology recognises only seven aspect relationships. Across all 144 combinations this calculator returns 7 distinct percentages, and a calculator showing 144 different numbers is adding noise.
Are two people of the same star sign compatible?
They score 82% here, the conjunction. The tradition reads it as instant recognition with shared blind spots — two people who understand each other and reinforce the same habits.
Do opposite zodiac signs attract?
They score 65%, which is above the midpoint. Astrology treats opposite signs as two halves of one axis rather than as enemies, which is why an opposition rates well ahead of a square.
Is this zodiac love calculator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and nothing you enter is sent to a server or stored. Both signs are scored in your browser.
What if I do not know my star sign?
Enter a birth date instead and the calculator fills in the sign for you. It uses the standard tropical date ranges, so 23 August to 22 September is Virgo and so on.
Can I use names and zodiac signs together?
Not in one score. There is no tradition defining how to weight letters against aspects, so any combined number is invented. Run the name calculator and this one separately and compare.
Is a sun sign the same as a birth chart?
No. A sun sign is one point among dozens. A real compatibility reading needs the Moon, the ascendant, Venus and Mars, all of which require a birth time and a birth place that this page never asks for.
Is a zodiac love calculator accurate?
No. It applies published aspect rules consistently, which makes it repeatable rather than accurate. Nothing about two people can be read from the month they were born.
What if I was born on the cusp between two signs?
The calculator uses fixed date ranges and will assign one sign. Cusp dates shift by a day or so each year because the Sun does not change sign at midnight, so check a chart for your exact birth year if a date falls on a boundary.
Is a rashi love calculator the same as this one?
No. A rashi is a Vedic moon sign in the sidereal zodiac and needs a birth time to compute, while this page uses Western sun signs in the tropical zodiac. The two zodiacs differ by about 24 degrees, so most people sit one sign earlier in the Vedic system.
Is a star sign love compatibility calculator different from a zodiac one?
No. Star sign and zodiac sign mean the same thing in everyday use — star sign is simply the more common wording in British English. Both refer to the sun sign.
How accurate is a love calculator by zodiac sign?
It is not a prediction. A love calculator by zodiac sign returns one of seven possible scores, because the twelve-sign wheel only produces seven distinct angles. Two couples with completely different relationships and the same pair of signs receive the same number.
