Love Calculator by Name

A love calculator by name is a tool that turns two names into a single compatibility percentage by counting and comparing their letters. The name-based method dates back to school notebooks, where children wrote two names, counted how often the letters of the word "loves" appeared, and folded the totals into a two-digit number.

Our version keeps that method and adds three refinements: vowel balance, shared letters, and the numerology value of each name. The output is one percentage plus five sub-scores covering chemistry, communication, trust, passion, and longevity.

Every calculation runs inside your browser. No name reaches our servers, because no server takes part in the arithmetic.

Our love calculator works by taking four separate readings from both names, then blending them into one score. Each reading measures something different, and each is repeatable.

To calculate love percentage from two names, the tool runs steps 1 to 4 below in order.

Step 1 — The letters are tidied

The calculator strips accents, spaces, hyphens, apostrophes, and digits, then lowercases what remains. José-María and Jose Maria become the identical string josemaria.

Tidying matters because a calculator that punishes you for typing an apostrophe cannot be trusted with anything else.

Step 2 — Counting L·O·V·E·S

The two tidied names are joined into one string, and the calculator counts how many times each letter of the word "loves" appears across it. Five counts are read side by side as one long number.

Long names with repeated vowels produce a busy string. Short, consonant-heavy names produce a sparse one.

Step 3 — Folding the digits

The calculator adds the first digit to the last, the second to the second-to-last, and works inward until two digits remain. Sums of 10 or more keep both of their digits.

That two-digit number is the base compatibility, and it is exactly what the playground version gives you.

Step 4 — Weighing vowel balance, shared letters and numerology

• Vowel balance measures the gap between each name's ratio of vowels to total letters. Aoife runs vowel-heavy at 60%, Blythe runs vowel-light at 17%.
• Shared letters measures how much of the shorter name's alphabet appears in the longer one.
• Numerology assigns each letter a value from 1 to 9 in the Pythagorean system, reduces each name to a single digit, and compares the two.

The exact weights we use

Four readings are normalised onto a common 0–100 scale, then combined at fixed weights:

The traditional method leads at 38%. The refinements adjust the result rather than overrule it.

Rahul and Priya score 55%, which lands in the Slow Burn band. Here is every step that produces it.

1. 1 Tidy and sort. Both names reduce to priya and rahul, sorted alphabetically so the order you typed them cannot matter.
2. 2 Join. The combined string is priyarahul.
3. 3 Count L·O·V·E·S. The string holds one L, zero O, zero V, zero E, and zero S, giving the digit string 10000.
4. 4 Fold. 10000 becomes 100, then 10. The base score is 10.
5. 5 Harmony index. The letter pair hashes to 29.
6. 6 Texture. Both names run at 40% vowels, so the gap is zero, and they share two letters (R and A). Texture scores 76.
7. 7 Numerology. Priya reduces to 6, Rahul reduces to 6. Perfect agreement scores 100.
8. 8 Blend and shape. The weighted blend lands at 43.51, which converts to a ranked position of 0.3756 and maps to a final score of 55%.

Eight bands cover the full range. The frequency column is measured across 1,600 real name pairings, not estimated.

Most pairings land between 42% and 77%. A score of 61% sits exactly at the median.

Scores above 90% appear in 1.8% of name pairs, measured across 400 combinations of common Indian and Western first names.

The scale stops at 99% and never reaches 100%. Two reasons drive that cap: no instrument reading letters should claim perfection, and a number nobody can reach stays more interesting than one everybody hits.

Each result breaks into five facets, so a single percentage never has to carry the whole reading. Rahul and Priya score 55% overall, and their facets show the spread beneath it.

• Chemistry — the loosest facet, allowed to move furthest from the headline number. Rahul and Priya score 45%.
• Communication — derived largely from how the two names balance vowels and consonants. They score 42%.
• Trust — the structural reading, tied closely to the headline score. They score 52%.
• Passion — volatile by design, and the facet most likely to surprise you. They score 46%.
• Longevity — the steadiest facet of all. They score 60%.

Longevity outrunning chemistry by 15 points is the signature of a slow burn. Zero competing love calculators publish sub-scores at all.

Our love calculator returns an identical score every time, because no random number generator exists anywhere in the code. No timestamp, no session identifier, and no stored history take part.

Spelling changes the score more than most people expect, because the calculator reads letters rather than pronunciation. Aisha, Ayesha, and Aysha sound close and score far apart.

These figures show what the letter arithmetic returns for well-known name pairs. They describe spelling, and they say nothing about the people or their relationships.

Several long-married couples sit in the lower bands, which demonstrates the point better than any disclaimer: letters do not run relationships.

Common name pairs spread the same way. Sameer and Kavya score 84%, Rohan and Sneha score 75%, Rahul and Priya score 55%, and Aditya and Riya score 38%.

Three practical rules cover most cases:

• Full names give the calculator more letters and produce more distinctive scores.
• Nicknames work perfectly well, and a nickname is often the truer name.
• Surnames change the score, because they add letters like any other input.

Middle names count as extra letters and shift the result. Adding a surname after marriage changes the score for the same reason.

Consistency matters more than the choice itself. Compare five couples using first names only, or compare five couples using full names, and never mix the two.

Yes, and the score is the same whoever they are. The calculator has two inputs: a name and a name. Nothing here asks whether the person is your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your partner, or someone you have not spoken to yet.

What changes the reading is spelling. Katherine and Kathryn are two different inputs and score differently, while the relationship itself is not an input at all.

Two details matter for Indian users specifically:

• Transliteration spelling changes the score. Aisha, Ayesha, and Aysha are the same name in speech and three different inputs in arithmetic, spanning 46 percentage points with Rahul.
• Numerology carries 12% of the final blend. This tool uses the Pythagorean system rather than the Chaldean system common in Indian numerology, so a Chaldean reading will differ.
